The Mobile Trap

By Shaunak Kulkarni

Today, we stand united;

Not by ideology

Not by humanity

Not by the need for sustainability;

We gather around Technology.

We stand by metal slabs,

With voracious appetites

For communication, entertainment, jokes, and opinions,

The calendar, the albums, the clocks,

The theatres, the restaurants, the coffee shops!

Where memories are public,

The public the judge

The masses the jury!

Where the mind and its ability are held under lock,

Without a key

Beneath a shroud of harsh, bright,

brilliant colourful light.

Frightful as it may sound

The smartphone does get around,

Compelling us together, only to force us apart.

When we stand divided

Vision clouded by deception,

The Saviour, a web of unverified information

Blatantly honest contention

Countless instances of misdirection.

Today, we stand united

But each for their own,

With their portable, (and) featherlight

Miracle light.

With the sleek miracle box

(oh) how life rocks!

If trends swing left,

Migrate right.

Obstacles on the way?

Swipe up... to avoid,

But not so in real life.

Today we rush together,

Helter-skelter

Sometimes for work,

Running for play.

Sometimes in reality,

Often virtually.

We used to bond over food,

Movies, music, books, and plays.

But who now has the time to socialise?

It takes too long to maintain just profiles!

Once they were special days and dates,

Non-existent now

but for reminders with mandates;

It is their birthday-

Wish them all, and get on your way.

Movies through games

Work, and even fame,

In this little slab, a mobile trap,

Why even step out?

There probably is an app!

Today we stand united

The world a global village,

With villagers worlds apart.

Separated because their energy is sapped,

held within

The Mobile trap.

Embracing the Flow - A Year in Reflection

Dear Readers, As we bid adieu to another remarkable year, it is a privilege to present this edition of our magazine, encapsulating the...

Republic to Empire

When Rome conquered Greece in 146 BC, it ended up absorbing many of its advanced (for the time) political and philosophical theories.
